Our counterparts in the Norwegian EV Association, Norsk Elbilforening, have recently conducted a winter comparison of the new LEAF, Ioniq, i3, Ampera E and e-Golf on a two day run in the mountains. It’s an interesting read, with some surprises and no outstanding overall winner. The Ioniq was the most praised, so came out on top, An interesting result in the DC charging test indicated that the 60kWh Ampera E would potentially be last on a longer journey even with a significantly bigger battery, simply because it charges far more slowly in the cold. Even in Norway a run with five cars brings problems as some locations have only FOUR Rapid chargers!
