United States taking a backwards step

Our colleagues in the United States report here on legislation that remove the power for individual states to set economy and emissions legislation. Being America, it will be in court for some time, but has a significant potential to have a broad impact on a significant part of the global EV market.

While unlikely to impact the European market for EVs, it may create an opportunity for smaller, more affordable EVs to establish themselves as day to day runabouts in the market. For the UK this legislation may have an impact on the ongoing US/UK trade talks, which may see pressure brought to bear on the Westminster Government to take a similar stance.

Under current Covid-19 stay at home guidance, there has been a marked improvement in air quality in our cities, something that the Association will be highlighting as a permanent ongoing benefit with large scale adoption of electrified public transport, active travel and zero-emission electric vehicles.
